Allegations of Patent Infringement in 3D Graphics Processing Technology

In this action for patent infringement, a Silicon Valley high-performance computing company, who had built its reputation and success on its pioneering work in 3D imaging, contended that products made by Defendant infringed three of its patents. Working for the Plaintiff, a key component of the graphics strategy at trial was the display of multiple sequences of diagrams explaining the company’s innovative 3D graphics program as a “pipeline through which data passes.” Likewise, the corresponding complex terminology and claim language necessary to describe these inventions cried-out for clarification, so considerable effort was made to present the court with side-by-side comparisons of an extensive list of claim terms, descriptions and schematics relevant to the two parties’ products.
